OUR PROGRAMS
Tutoring Division
The Tutoring Division provides academic assistance to students, such as homework help and exam preparation. Our high school advisors can help with a variety of subjects, including math, science, ELA, history, computer science, and much more. We also offer workshops for essay writing and prep for SAT, PSAT, ACT, and SSAT.
Mentoring Division
The Mentoring Division provides students with an older advisor they can talk to and relate with. Advisors will motivate students and offer personalized guidance. Additionally, advisors can assist with applications to high school/college, finding hobbies and extracurriculars, and other fun activities with fellow students.
Oratory Division
The Oratory Division coaches students in public speaking, presentation, and leadership skills. Our experienced advisors offer assistance in debating and speech writing. Students will be given opportunities to practice their speaking skills at public venues, events, and competitions.

Who is eligible to be a part of MYLA?MYLA aims to give a platform to students who are members of underserved minority groups. Black, Latinx, Native American, and Pacific Islander populations have been historically underrepresented in higher education. Students who are members of these minority groups are eligible receive assistance from MYLA.
-
How does the process work? After submitting the student registration form, our team will review your application to determine what MYLA can best offer you. Based on your needs and personality, we will match you to a personalized advisor. You can always request to change your personal advisor.
-
What is the role of an advisor?MYLA Advisors are role models who help guide younger students through their education. Because they are members of underrepresented minority groups, they understand the obstacles that minority students face in finding opportunities and can better relate to students. Our advisors offer services such as tutoring, mentoring, and oratory coaching. They also support and motivate students so they know there is someone looking out for them.
-
What types of classes are available?MYLA primarily offers one-on-one sessions with a personalized advisor, which can last anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour. However, we also plan to offer group advising and special workshops in the near future. MYLA is currently expanding its offerings based on student interest and advisor availability.
-
Do MYLA advisors get paid?MYLA wants to provide free services to underrepresented students and don't require them to pay tuition fees. Therefore, we want to make sure that prospective advisors are aware that as a tutor/mentor for MYLA, they won’t be getting paid. There are various tutoring organizations that will pay, but MYLA is not one of them.
